LG Electronics today officially launched the highly awaited LG Wing smartphone under their Explorer Project which promises innovative designs. Looking at LG Wing we can definitely say that LG has gone beyond imagination and innovated this new smartphone. LG Wing boasts a new swiveling front screen which when rotated makes a T-shaped smartphone on top of a smaller screen.
LG says that the swiveling screen action has been tested more than 2,00,000 times for durability. It works on a complex yet effective swivel mechanism which includes dual spring, dual lock and hydraulic damper.
LG Wing primary front screen is a 6.8 inch POLED 2460x 1080 pixel FHD+ display with 25:9 aspect ratio. When swiveled, it reveals the secondary 3.9 inch OLED screen with 1.15:1 aspect ratio. Both screens support upto 60Hz refresh rate.
LG Wing is powered by Snapdragon 765G chipset with 5G enabled. It will be available in 8 GB RAM with 2 internal storage options of 128GB and 256GB. There is an option to expand the internal storage via a microSD card upto 2TB.
The backside of the devices host a triple camera setup of a 64MP f/1.8 aperture main sensor, a 12MP wide “big pixel camera” with 120 degrees field of view, and one another 13MP, f/1.9 117 degrees wide angle shooter. LG Wing can also be used as a Gimbal where the device can be held using the second screen as a grip and the 12MP big pixel camera with 6 motion stabilizers can be used to pan around objects and sceneries. The “Gimbal Motion Camera” mode gives additional control such as joystick on the secondary smaller screen for better control over video while recording. The same mode can also be used to record simultaneous front and back cameras video recordings in a single take. The front selfie camera is a 32MP popup camera, hidden at the top.
LG wing runs on Android 10 out of the box. It doesn’t have a 3.5 mm jack however USB-C to 3.5 jack converter is provided in the retail box. It has a 4000mAh battery which is capable of charging 50% in 25 mins and 100% in 85 mins. The battery is charged using a 25W fast charger. LG wing will be available in 2 colors: Aurora Grey and Illusion Sky. The device weighs at 260 grams.
LG highlighted the new innovative swiveling screen by showing us some use cases of the device. The device can be used in a Gimbal Camera mode, navigation on one screen while attending calls or controlling music on the second screen. The event showcased that media controls will appear on the secondary screen and there will be no hindrances in front of the video being played. A second pre-release video showed a racing game being played on the main screen and the game’s track layout being displayed on the secondary screen. The device also suggests to use App pairs where 2 apps can be simultaneously launched on both the screen.
