After weeks of multiple teasers, Samsung has now officially released Galaxy S20 FE to now bring flagship features to a much more affordable price range. Samsung instead of calling it Galaxy S20 “Lite” just like its predecessor Galaxy S20 Lite, has renamed this new smartphone as Galaxy S20 FE or “Fan Edition”. Maybe Samsung doesn’t want to associate the word “lite” with their almost-flagship devices. Company has also confirmed that their flagship devices will get a Fan Edition model every year. Galaxy S20 FE is also guaranteed to get three years of Android OS upgrades.
Price and Availability
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G model price in the US will start at $699. The price of the 4G model is yet to be announced and we expect it to be less than the 5G model. The phone comes in 3 RAM and Storage variants: 6GB+128GB, 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB. Also Samsung this time has provided 6 varieties of color options: Cloud Red, Cloud Orange, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy and Cloud White. The handset is going to be released across the globe on October 2 while release dates for Indian market are yet to be announced.
Features and Specifications
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE features a 6.5 inch Full HD+ (1080×2400 pixels) Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Company has added a 120Hz refresh rate to the display to deliver super smooth scrolling and gaming experience. Under the display we can find the optical fingerprint sensor. The 4G variant of Galaxy S20 FE will be powered by Samsung’s Exynos 990 SoC while the 5G variant will get the Snapdragon 865. There is an option to expand the internal storage via a microSD card.
The rear triple camera setup is vertically aligned similar to the Galaxy Note 20 camera setup and includes a primary 12MP f/1.8 wide angle camera with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and dual phase detection autofocus, another 12MP f/2.2 wide angle shooter with 123 degrees FoV and an 8MP f/2.0 telephoto sensor. The primary camera setup is capable of 3x Optical Zoom and 30x super resolution zoom. For selfies Galaxy S20 FE has a 32MP f/2.0 camera at the front.
The Galaxy S20 FE device is IP68 water and dust resistance rated and packs a 4500mAh battery that supports 25W fast wired charging and wireless charging. However Samsung has provided a 15W fast charger within the box and 25W fast charger has to be purchased separately. It can also share power wirelessly to other supporting devices using Samsung’s Wireless PowerShare feature.
