Google on Tuesday announced the Verified Calls feature in its Google Phone app on most Android devices. The new Google Verified Calls feature will provide spam protection giving warning about suspicious callers.
Spam calling is a huge problem in India as well as many other countries. “a 2019 FTC report found that phone calls were the number one way people reported being contacted by scammers. While most people said they hung up on those calls, those who lost money reported a median loss of $1,000.” – Google
With the help of Google Verified Calls, users will be able to see the caller’s name, business logo, reason for calling and a blue shield with white tick inside it as a verification symbol indicating the business has been authenticated by Google.
Google also added that all information will be displayed in a secure manner and the company doesn’t store or collect any PII (Personally Identifiable Information) after verification.
Verified Calls is initially rolling out in the US, Mexico, Brazil, Spain and India, with more countries to come. Google Phone is available to download in most Android phones while some smartphone makers might not allow you to use a custom dialer, hence the use of the phrase ‘Most Android Phones’ by Google.
