Vivo X50 series: Gimbal camera in a smartphone

Vivo has announced its latest X50 series of flagship smartphones. This includes 3 new smartphones: X50, X50 Pro and X50 Pro Plus.
The main headlines for these smartphones is the newly introduced Gimbal-camera in Pro and Pro Plus variants. This is not the first time Vivo has introduced something for the first time in smartphones. Vivo is the company to first introduce completely full screen design, motorized selfie pop-up camera and the first company to introduce in display fingerprint scanner. We can confidently say that the company has innovated many smartphone features in the past.

Being the top end model, X50 Pro plus has Snapdragon 865 processor, 12 GB RAM, 6.6 inch OLED screen with 120 Hz refresh rate and the battery capacity rated at 4350 mAh backed up by 33W fast charging.
The primary camera uses Vivo’s gimbal system, and it’s backed up with a 13-megapixel ultrawide, a 13-megapixel 5x periscope telephoto, and a 32-megapixel depth sensor.

The X50 Pro runs on a comparatively slower Snapdragon 765G processor, the curved 6.56 inch OLED screen is 90Hz Battery capacity is 4,315mAh battery which charges at 33W. The maximum amount of RAM is 8GB.
The main gimbal camera uses a 48-megapixel sensor while the ultrawide, telephoto, and depth sensors drop to 8, 8, and 13 megapixels respectively.

The lowest model,  X50, has a Snapdragon 765G, a flat 90Hz screen, a 4,200mAh battery, and a 48-megapixel without the gimbal system. It also drops the telephoto altogether in favor of a 5-megapixel macro lens alongside the same ultrawide and depth sensors as the X50 Pro.

All three phones have a 32-megapixel hole-punch selfie camera, dual-mode 5G, and Wi-Fi 6. They all run Vivo’s Funtouch OS 10.5, based on Android 10.

Price and availability

It should be noted that X50 Pro Plus model won’t be released in India. While The X50 series will initially launch in markets including India, Indonesia, Russia, and more. They are now available for pre-booking on the Vivo’s India Website.
