Twitter rolls out limited-reply features over user tweets

Twitter Reply Limiting Feature

On Tuesday 11th, Twitter introduced a new reply limiting feature for all the users across its platform. The new setting will give people more control over the conversation they start. Twitter has been working on this new feature since May, and based on the feedback, interviews and surveys results, the company is now confident to push it into live action.

“These settings help some people feel safer and could lead to more meaningful conversations, while still allowing people to see different points of view.”
Suzzane Xie, Director of Product Management.

How it works:

Before you tweet, you can choose who can reply with below three options:

  1. Everyone (standard and default setting)
  2. People you follow, or
  3. Only people you mention

If you choose the latter two settings, the reply icon will be grayed out for people who can’t reply. People who can’t reply will still be able to view, Retweet, Retweet with Comment, share, and like these Tweets.

“Twitter serves the public conversation, so it’s important for people to be able to see different perspectives. We’ll keep working on making it easier for people to find the entire discussion through Retweets with Comments. Also, we’re trying out a new label to make it more obvious when these conversation settings are used.”Suzzane added.

This new feature can definitely be helpful for individuals who don’t want anyone to reply with unnecessary harassment or abusing comments.

If you are unable to see these new changes in your mobile app, you may want to bring the app to the latest version by updating it. Currently these settings on Twitter are available on iOS and Android as well as twitter.com.
