Users will get a magnifying glass next to the forwarded message. Upon clicking on magnifying glass, users will get a prompt that the image will be uploaded on Google. After uploading the image, WhatsApp will open the browser to show search results. And with some self-investigation after going through web results users can determine the message authenticity.
WhatsApp to introduce reverse image search in forwarded messages to fight against fake news
If you are a regular user of social media platforms, chances are high that you have faced a fake or bogus information there. WhatsApp is soon going to introduce a feature that will enable users of the platform to search for a frequently forwarded message over the internet. This way WhatsApp is trying to educate its platform users the credibility of a viral message.
The feature is available for users in Brazil, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, UK, and the US for all versions of WhatsApp. The feature is NOT available in India as of now. We hope WhatsApp will soon release this feature in India for its more than 400 million active users.
