WhatsApp is testing Expiring Messages feature for privacy improvement

World’s biggest messaging app, WhatsApp is soon going to introduce Expiring Messages for its platform users. This feature will have the functionality of self-deleting messages so that history is not built-up in chats and groups. WhatsApp is actually developing the feature, so it’s not available in the 2.20.197.10 update, but they are internally working on it, improving the feature with a bug fixing process, in this update.

Expiring message features can be turned on and off by any member of the chat, however for groups only admins will be able to enable this feature. This feature is already available on Signal and Telegram messaging apps, where users there can set the messages in chats and conversation to disappear within a few seconds to 1 week. In WhatsApp messages will get deleted after a fixed period of 1 week. Media sent in chats will still be saved in your phone. Chat participants who want to save an expiring message can do so by taking a screenshot or forwarding it to other recipients or groups.

As of now it is not officially announced when this feature will be rolled out to all users.
