Owner of Instagram, Facebook has now started rolling out a feature that will let Instagram users chat with their Facebook friends directly from the app. This integration has started to get noticed by several users across the US – on both iOS and Android. The Verge reported that an update screen popped up in Instagram’s mobile app with the message, “There’s a New Way to Message on Instagram” with a list of features including a “new colorful look for your chats”, more emoji reactions, swipe-to-early, and the big one: “chat with friends who use Facebook”.
The new update changes the regular DM icon in the top right corner of Instagram to Facebook Messenger logo. However, users noticed that it’s still not possible to message Facebook users directly from Instagram.
Facebook has made clear its plans to unify the messaging platforms of its hugely popular apps to allow cross-messaging among Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
